| I
live and work in Cardiff, but was born and brought up in Caernarfon, North
Wales, a beautiful and historic area of Wales, nestled beside Snowdonia and
overlooking the Irish Sea. My parents and grandparents spoke welsh so I was surrounded by chatter about almost anything. My grandparents were old when they died, and my imagination was filled with scenes of farms; of large families; church and chapel goers; strict Victorian parentage and the secrets they kept, revealing themselves over the years as folklore. My life growing up was split between living in town and visiting my grandparents' farm. My grandmother had been ill, so her house was filled with untouched objects handed down over generations. When I came to art college in Cardiff I fell in love with the juxtaposition between old and new. I chose to develop my professional career there, and now have a really good profile in Wales, and have exhibited with many artists senior to myself. I am now a mother as well, and identify even more with the family motif that has always occupied my work. The home is difficult for me to move from - it is where I am happiest. |
