'Working with clay
is both a very seductive and sensory rich experience. I have endeavoured to lay
bare these physical attributes to produce sculptures that have both a strong
physical presence and a voluptuous intensity of form. Of late I have been
focused on developing work that engages the viewer in an experience that moves
beyond the visual and touches on the emotional. I have drawn from my own
responses to favourite works and recognise that in their power lies the ability
to excite and awaken our innermost feelings. These feelings lodge in the gut
and heart and often remain long after the actual image itself has faded from
the minds eye. If people can "Feel" as well as "See" my sculpture that will be
the measure of its success.

'I have
been a practising ceramic artist since obtaining my Art's degree at Brighton
Polytechnic in 1988. After two years based in Brighton I returned to my
hometown Liverpool to set up studio and have been based there for the past 14
years. Alongside developing my own work I have undertaken various employment
that has greatly informed and enriched my practise. This has included work in
the ceramic industry producing murals for the Middle Eastern market.

| The
largest and most prestigious project consisted of a 100sq ft mural for the
Forte Grande in Abu Daubi. I have also completed a Certificate in Further and
adult education and worked with both children and adults in a variety of
establishments including galleries, schools and community centres. Assisting in
student's development and equipping them with knowledge and skills so that they
can express themselves and their ideas fully continues to be extremely
rewarding. Finally my post as a gallery administrator helped broaden my
knowledge of contemporary craft and enabled me to actively promote the role and
relevance of craft in contemporary society. My career to date has been both
diverse and exciting with future plans including moving my work into bronze and
public sites.' |
