| As
always, some new photos of Rowan - please
Suddenly it is art fair time again, with Chelsea 23rd - 27th April, and Bristol AAF 15th - 18th May I am excitedly awaiting the work of several new artists: sculptor Jenny Southam from Devon and painters Dan Bennett from Brighton, Ross Stewart from South West Ireland and Tracey Williams from South Wales. Images will be added to the web site as soon as I receive the work.... We will be showing brand new work by the following artists at Cheslea: Daniel Ablitt, David Body, Kirstie Cohen, Denise Davis, Graham Gosling, Lindsey Hambleton, Nick Hedderly, Lawrie Quigley, Jenny Reading and Paul Smith Nick Hedderly has produced new works following a recent painting trip to London. These depict two very different aspects of London, with the loose painterly style brilliantly capturing the light and reflection of a rainy evening. The view of Canary Wharf is striking in its familiarity, but the seemingly ordinary roadways form a composition of strong lines and double perspective, punctuated by vivid oranges and greens which lead the eye through the painting, to the distant view. This stands in contrast to the more intimate 'Sloane Square', busy with people beside warm toned buildings which cast pink and orange reflections. |

| We must get our
priorities right: please click
here to see some new photos of Rowan! We are about to enter our busy Autumn period, with AAF in October, and Edinburgh Art Fair in November. Also this year, I will be exhibiting my work at Brighton Art Fair, 27th - 30th September, which will give me a chance to show a more comprehensive range of work, both landscape and figurative. I have had a very productive year, working with new ideas and techniques. In January, I decided to recycle the many palette boards in my studio, suddenly excited by the build up of pure colour and texture, and these were reworked into energetic landscape studies. The production process was very organic since I wanted to keep the colours in the same position, and let the landscape evolve. My subsequent landscape work has therefore been much freer, with more emphasis on pure colour. I found the final arrival of summer after the terrible rain to be a real inspiration, and my painting has recently concentrated on the deep shadows and magical yellow light of the season. Alongside landscape painting, I have been creating a series of figurative work, using the idea of the popular constructed canvases, and setting small figure sculptues into the aperture. These have also evolved into more open forms in the figure in the city series. The figures are a clay base, finished with bronze resin and oil colour. | November 2006 |
| 2006 has been a busy
year for us - our first baby, Rowan George, was born on 17th May, so everything
has been on hold for a few months. (Although Rick did set up Bristol AAF on
18th May, less than 24 hours after his son was born!) Of course we're now
obsessed with Rowan, and I must resist the urge to have photos of him
everywhere, but for all the baby lovers out there,

him. Rowan really enjoyed his first trip to London AAF, and will be with us in Edinburgh later this month! |
| We will be
exhibiting the exciting work of well known artists Dion Salvador Lloyd and Colin
Halliday for the first time in Edinburgh. Both artists achieve a magical
quality in their landscape work, through brilliant use of their chosen
techniques. Dion works on a heavily textured ground, which contrasts with
silken skies, giving incredible depth. Colin uses layers of various mediums to
create expressive, energetic interpretations of landscape. It has been a pleasure to meet with these artists and choose work for Edinburgh - we can't wait to hang the exhibition next week! Click images for more information about each artist |

| Daniel Ablitt's
mystical narrative
and cityscape canvases will once again be attracting attention at Edinburgh Art
Fair this month. Daniel describes his paintings as having 'a magical or unreal
quality' which 'leaves the viewer with more question than answers'. Buyers of
Daniel's work feel a personal attachment his paintings and simply cannot live
without their chosen piece! Click here to view a selection of Daniel's work |

| Although busy with
baby Rowan, Lindsey Hambleton has managed to produce new
paintings recently, and sold all her new work at AAF last
month.A new
direction is to include sculptures in the apertures of her popular and
innovative constructed canvases, and Lindsey hopes to have more of these works
available in Edinburgh (as long as Granny's happy to babysit!) Click here to view a selection of Lindsey's work |
