| Rather than showing strong emotion, the portraits are about
subtleties and ambiguities of feeling. Whether they are looking out of a
window, curled up with a book or pegging out washing, the subjects are as much
in their own inner world of thoughts and feelings as they are in the world of
their environment. It is this inner life that I want the viewer to connect with
and to feel that they can engage with the subject's humanity...the portraits
are unknown to us on a physical level, but feel known to us on a spiritual or
emotional level. |
