Jane Dearden

Jane Dearden is an abstract British landscape painter, who graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from De Montfort University and has settled in Melbourne, Derbyshire.

Jane paints to celebrate her love of her surroundings; the Great British Landscape. She responds with a mixture of passion and vigour, which contrasts with areas of great peace. Jane applies the paint as she draws, quickly with movement and sensitivity and explores the canvas with a variety of media. The paint and pencil work all importantly together providing intensity as well as tranquility. Jane experiments with lots of mark making and layering techniques. The finished works provide a contemporary, abstract take on the traditional British landscape.

Themes within the work are; animals in motion, particularly birds; the landscape of rural Derbyshire; and the coastlines of North Devon and Wales. Jane's enthusiasm for her subject matter is evident in her passionate and expressive painting and drawing style.

The latest evocative pieces demonstrate Jane's love of British Seaside towns, particularly Blackpool and Llandudno, using her drawing skills to engage the viewer by introducing glimpses of historic and traditional references. These pieces are a snapshot of an England now long gone, and are a personal response to Jane's love of the Victorian era and their seaside traditions of the time.
