Statement
My contemporary oil paintings are about the natural world whether it be designs on the land, the colour of the seas and oceans or the way the sky may move. I am inspired by almost everything around me; living by the sea, film, music, books, exhibitions - the list could go on forever but if one was to put it in the most general terms I am inspired by life, nature and the human condition. The essence of my work captures the shifting elements of the natural world, which assume a life of their own and change accordingly to the context in which they are viewed. My approach is more suggestive than descriptive allowing the viewer to bring his or her own interpretation to each piece.

History
Skylight Studio
I embarked on a 14 year sabbatical from creating, which initiated a turning point, where I vowed to pursue a career as an artist. I used this time to travel and contemplate my life, all of which led me to become increasingly disillusioned with my then career in catering. This helped me to make a clear decision to become an artist; all of the above gained me vital experience and research material for my paintings. With this promise in mind I decided to return to my roots in Brighton and secured my own studio named skylight. It has now been six years since then and I now work full time as a painter where I explore and express my ideas through this medium.

Washington Green
Published artist
Washington Green is part of the Halcyon Fine Art group, which for the last 26 years has specialised in representing and developing what they describe as some of the finest painters and sculptors worldwide. I have worked with their galleries and outlets. Some of these paintings are translated into collectable limited edition prints.

Hove Arts
Hove Arts is an arts group formed in 1999. I joined the group in 2001, where I am the sponsorship coordinator, responsible for promoting the group and obtaining business sponsorship support for our events. Hove Arts came together to link our venues - open houses, studios and workshops initially as part of the Brighton Festival. The idea was to recognise and develop the art activities in Hove. Since 1999 we have grown considerably and now have 40 sponsors and 20 venues showing the work of over 120 individual artists with a wide range of varying mediums. My position within Hove Arts accesses me to networking with other artists, working with local businesses and provides me with artistic support.

Training/background 1979-1984 Christ's Hospital, Horsham-Sussex
I am a self-taught painter and, coming from an artistic family meant I have always been surrounded by art from an early age, hence my middle name. Together with my passion for music, I have found creative self-expression through painting. After my sabbatical I resumed painting, with a fresh outlook and new ideas.
