| When you ask Lloyd what his intentions are with his work, his answer is, and 'I want to make work people can fall into.' In the later contemporary works this desire is fulfilled. With no clearer cut clouds to ground us in the real, the viewer falls into the piece, our own perception the only guide within which to decide if we are looking at sky, land or sea. |
Without the framework of the real, Lloyd's work is blown right open; everything recognisable is removed, leaving only the colour, trace and mood of the landscape. The viewer is left unsure in surreal landscapes of their own imagination, for one person this painting is a wave on a shore, for another it is salt flats and distant mountains. .... Lloyd's works are dreamscapes of the soul, his quest the same now as it was when he began, a constant search for the light, the free and the eternal expansiveness of nature and the human heart.
