Colin Halliday

View artist's CV

Colin Halliday's work has a dream like quality, a moodiness that seems to speak of the very nature of nature. They are a way of communicating and expressing the brooding sensibilities that are brought on by experiencing the views at first-hand. In some cases this traditional inspiration for landscape painting has been combined with a more contemporary approach to media. It is both the overall aesthetics of an image and the emotional impact that influence him in choosing the subject and the medium. Painterly qualities of an image are important whilst retaining a descriptive influence.

Born in Cumbria in 1964, Halliday moved to London in his twenties. Now firmly established in the London art scene Colin and his family moved to Derbyshire in 2005 and as a result the landscape now dominates his work, and with his romantic inclinations the work coming out of his studio is breathtakingly beautiful.

* New Work 2007 *
Colin has been very busy since Christmas, and these brand new painting were picked out during a recent studio visit. Web images cannot do justice to the beautiful surfaces, textures and light in Colin's work, but here is a preview of paintings to be shown at Chelsea Art Fair in April.
